A collection of projects by Vanessa Jayne from throughout her studies
My name is Vanessa Jayne and I am an architectural graduate and business owner.
For the past year I have had the opportunity to work under the guidance of Frank Corran at Bayside Architects. I worked across all stages of project development resulting in a broad knowledge of the architectural process. I was involved in a range of different projects, including: new residential projects; residential additions and alterations; additions and alterations to heritage dwellings; multi-residential developments; and commercial projects.
In the schematic design stage I developed concepts in accordance with client briefs, budget, site, and ResCode. I also documented and measured existing dwellings and coordinated surveyor information when available. In the town planning stage I prepared documentation, wrote design reports, assessed proposed projects against the applicable Residential Development Standards and applied for permits. I also prepared construction drawings sets including: plans (site, floor, roof, RCP & electrical), elevations, sections, construction details, joinery drawings, and door/window schedules. In addition I specified finishes and coordinated consultant documentation. Other responsibilities included developing a system to track project progression and maintaining the office.
In 2018 completed my mater of architecture at Monash University. Throughout my studies I developed a keen understanding for design and have developed skills in project conceptualization and development; critical and creative thinking; hand and computer drawing; physical and virtual modelling; research and analysis; project presentation; and an attention to the macro and micro elements of design.
I have also furthered my skills in: collaboration and individual work; leadership and teamwork; time management and organization; verbal and written communication; problem solving; and an eagerness to learn.
During my studies I also had the opportunity to study internationally across Europe and Asia. One trip took me on an architectural tour of France and Italy, another to work in Japan, and another to volunteer designing and rebuilding in Nepal.
I am proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD; Autodesk Revit; Rhino3D; Rhino 3D plugin, Grasshopper; Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign; and Microsoft Office. With this solid foundation I am eager to learn any additional programs necessary.
Over the past six years I have also established and maintained a small children’s entertainment business with one employee, specializing in face painting, balloon twisting, party games and craft activities. Owning and running my own business has fostered invaluable skills in business management; client enquiries and bookings; managing staff and payroll; accounting and financial planning; invoicing and taking payments; advertising and social media management; website development; and managing equipment and materials.
I very much look forward to what the future holds…
